Representative Jeff Denham

Representing the 10th District of California

Weekly Update from Rep. Denham - August 16, 2013

Aug 16, 2013

Dear Friend,

What a great week I’ve had in the Central Valley! I especially enjoyed spending time with many of you during my rolling meeting last night aboard one of the ACE trains. Hearing from you about what you care about most is my top priority. You’re concerned about speeding up our transportation systems, including rail services, so that those of you who commute to work can get home to your families. You want Congress to keep working on your behalf to get to the bottom of what happened when four brave Americans lost their lives in Benghazi. You worry about the NSA potentially overreaching its authority and violating your Fourth Amendment rights. And you want to know how we can strengthen our economy so that you can find work and your children can graduate from high school or college knowing that they will be able to pursue the career of their choice.

I share your concerns. I will keep fighting in Washington, where I serve as chairman of the Transportation & Infrastructure’s Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials, to make our country’s rail systems more efficient while maintaining safety. I will continue to work with colleagues to get every bit of the information we can about the terrorist attack in Benghazi, because the families of those who lost their lives, and the public, deserve the full truth. I, too, am worried about the NSA’s overreach. I do not support, under any circumstances, warrantless spying on American citizens. I will be working with the appropriate committee chairmen in the House to make sure we balance the NSA’s pursuit of safety for the American people with the utmost respect for our Fourth Amendment privacy rights. And I will continue to support legislation that will help create jobs and get our economy back on track so that each of you can have the certainty and dignity of work.

I toured the Golden Valley Health Center in Modesto on Wednesday in recognition of National Health Centers Week.

Basalite Concrete Products, in Tracy, is working on a lot of new concrete solutions. I got to tour their facility on Wednesday.

Thursday morning I met with this friendly group at the Modesto Senior Center. I was honored to accept the Summer 2013 Champion of Seniors Award from The National Grange for my efforts to protect Medicare.

The Small Business Administration and Federal Reserve Bank invited me to be the keynote speaker for their Export Fair on Thursday. I spoke to attendees about the importance of our agricultural economy and how to grow exporting operations in the Valley.

On Thursday evening, I spoke to passengers on the eastbound ACE #08 train, which traveled from San Jose to Stockton. Hundreds of Stockton and Tracy residents in my district commute each day, so I got on the train to reach families who couldn't otherwise make one of my meetings. I enjoyed meeting so many of my constitutents.

I’m honored to serve you in Washington. Customer service is my top priority, and I consider myself lucky to have the opportunity to represent each of you in Congress. If you weren’t able to make yesterday’s meeting, or you’d like to share comments, concerns, or questions, please visit our site here to contact me. To stay up to date with my work in Congress and my time in the Central Valley, please be sure to follow me on Twitter and Facebook or visit my website.
