Representative Jeff Denham

Representing the 10th District of California

Weekly Update from Rep. Denham - March 29, 2013

Mar 29, 2013

Dear Friend,

It has been a pleasure to meet so many of you who have made the trip out to Washington, D.C., to see the sights and enjoy the spring season.  Right now, the city is entering its peak touring season, and I want you to know that my office is here to help if you are planning to come out.  Visiting our nation’s capital can be one of the most rewarding and exciting experiences, and my staff and I can help you in planning and reserving tickets to some of the capital’s most popular destinations.  These sites include lectures in the U.S. Supreme Court and tours of the Library of Congress, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, and the Kennedy Center; and while the White House has continued with their unfortunate decision to keep public tours closed, the U.S. Capitol Building remains open for all to come and visit.

My office Tour Guide highlights information on these sites and many others around Washington, D.C., and you can place your tour request online at   Please keep in mind that tickets are issued on a first-come, first-served basis, and many of the tours that can be booked through our office require that reservations be made at least a few months in advance.  If you do happen to find yourself in the city, our office door is always open, and I would encourage you to stop by 1730 Longworth to say hello.

A reminder to all high school artists in California’s 10th District: The 2013 Congressional Art Competition is currently underway!  Last year, Miss Gabriela Santellano from Hover High School took first place with her painting, “Light,” shown here.  One grand prize winner from our district will be selected to have their artwork hung in the U.S. Capitol Building for one year and will be invited to fly out to Washington, D.C., for a summer reception in June, 2013.  Those wishing to participate must have their artwork and release forms delivered to my Modesto office by Thursday, April 4 at 5:00 p.m.  For more details and official guidelines, please visit my website at  I hope aspiring art students will take this opportunity to share their talent not only with the 10th Congressional District of California, but with the nation; and I look forward to seeing all of this year’s wonderful entries.

I also want to invite all of you to our community listening sessions next week in Modesto from 4:30-6:30 p.m. and Manteca from 8:00 – 9:30 a.m.  As your Congressman, I’d like to hear from you about the critical issues facing our country and community.  These events, scheduled to take place on April 2nd and April 3rd, will allow you to share your thoughts on everything from jobs and taxes, to education policy, and immigration reform.  I hope many of you are able to join in the discussion next week, and you can RSVP or find more information on our community listening sessions online.  Our nation faces a range of tough issues, and the solutions are going to come from the input and advice of people like you.

Finally, I’d like to thank Mr. Michael Strong for all of his hard work interning in my Washington, D.C., office.  Michael has been a valuable addition to our team, and his excellent work ethic will take him far in life.  He has a great demeanor with all of our constituents, and I am proud to have him as a representative of our office.  To read more about Michael and his accomplishments, please visit his spotlight on my Facebook page here.

I look forward to seeing many of you while I’m back home, and meeting many of you at our listening sessions next week.  It is truly an honor to represent you in Congress, and I can’t do my job without hearing your feedback, concerns and priorities.  I encourage you to continue to spread the word about our weekly newsletter and stay up to date by visiting my website, facebook, and twitter pages.  Additionally, my family and I wish you and yours a very Happy Easter and wonderful spring season.

Have a great weekend,
