Congressman Denham Addresses Concerns of Rising Gas Prices During Local Gas Station Visit
(Modesto, CA) — U.S. Representative Jeff Denham (R-Turlock) today stopped by the Vineyard 76 gas station in Salida, CA, for a brief tour and informal discussion to address the concerns of Valley residents about California’s record-high gas prices.
“Like many of you, I was shocked to see the outrageous spike in gas prices when I went to fill up my truck last Friday. Prices are still up more than 45 cents from a week ago, and Californians are paying about 86 cents more than the average U.S. driver,” said Denham. “The reasons behind these record high price increases are a jarring reminder that energy policies here have serious consequences for families and businesses in the Valley. We need to make our country energy independent while creating new energy jobs here in the Central Valley today. I have and will continue to support legislation that will get us back on the right path and lessen the pain we all feel at the pump.”
During the tour, Rep. Denham visited with station employees and consumers to discuss how the recent gas price spike has impacted their day-to-day activities. He also shared his efforts as a member of the House Natural Resources Committee and as House Energy Action Team (HEAT) regional captain to promote an all-of-the-above domestic energy strategy to reduce regulations and lower gas prices to put people back to work. He was joined by Jeff LeBeouf, President of E. R. Vine & Sons petroleum distribution, who discussed the economic impact higher gas prices have on the Valley.
“High fuel prices are crippling for our economy in California,” said LeBouf. “The 60 cent fuel spike we experienced in the last ten days has had a negative trickle-down effect from petroleum distributers (such as our business) to the stations that we supply, down to the end user who depends on fuel as a large part of their family budget. We need to support legislation that curtails these fast and furious price spikes.”
Since the beginning of the 112th Congress, Congressman Denham has been working with HEAT to promote sound energy policies that will address rising energy prices, create jobs, and enhance our national security by promoting greater energy security for America. Congressman Denham has also supported a number of pieces of legislation as a member of the Natural Resources Committee to develop an all-of-the-above energy portfolio that will lower energy costs and put Americans back to work.
