MODESTO, Calif. — U.S. Representative Jeff Denham (R-Turlock) today announced his 2013 Central Valley Job Fair, being held in conjunction with the Stanislaus Economic Development and Workforce Alliance. The job fair, which will take place on Wednesday, September 25 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Modesto Centre Plaza, will help connect employers with job seekers and provide an opportunity for face-to-face meetings.

“The unemployment rate in Stanislaus County continues to hover around 12 percent,” said Rep. Denham. “I intend to do everything I can to help hiring employers meet with job seekers and prepare those looking for work to best present themselves.”

“Any way you slice it the Alliance is all about jobs - creating them and putting people to work,” said Teri Adams Jones, communications marketing manager for the Stanislaus Economic Development and Workforce Alliance. “Our unemployment rate may be dropping, but we still have a lot of good people looking for a job. That is why we are again working with Congressman Denham’s office to put on this job fair.”

The event will feature Central Valley employers seeking new hires in a wide range of fields. Employers will be accepting resumes and meeting with interested applicants throughout the fair.

Rep. Denham’s office is also working with Brandman University, part of Chapman University, to provide a variety of workshops and seminars for prospective job applicants. On September 18, the week before the fair, Brandman University will host a resume clinic and a series of workshops to help job seekers appropriately identify the best practices to present themselves to employers. The workshops will cover interview strategies and online job search strategies.

Brandman University will also hold a workshop focused exclusively on helping veterans and active duty service members learn to translate their skills into benefits for the workplace. As a founding member of the bipartisan, bicameral Congressional Veterans Jobs Caucus and as a veteran himself, Rep. Denham is especially focused on helping unemployed veterans find work.
