Denham to Discuss ENLIST Act with Rep. Polis, DREAMer in Facebook Live Event
WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Jeff Denham (R-Turlock) will host a Facebook Live discussion today, Feb. 28, 2017, at 2:10 p.m. PST with Rep. Jared Polis (D-CO) and Oscar Juarez-Luna, a resident in Rep. Polis’ district who is protected under the Development, Relief, and Education for Minors Act (DREAM Act), otherwise known as a DREAMer. The lawmakers and Mr. Juarez-Luna will discuss Rep. Denham’s Encourage New Legalized Immigrants to Start Training Act (ENLIST Act) and the necessity for a pathway to citizenship for those who are willing to serve the country they love with the U.S. military.
“Those serving with the armed forces are united by a shared goal to protect and defend the values that make up the bedrock of our democracy,” said Rep. Denham. “Safeguarding our freedoms is not a partisan issue, and I’m proud to lead discussions with my colleagues across the aisle about stories of people who love this country and are eager to serve our nation.”
The ENLIST Act would allow otherwise qualified undocumented immigrants, including DREAMers, brought here through no fault of their own by their parents to earn legal status through military service. Rep. Denham originally introduced the ENLIST Act in 2013 and has re-introduced the legislation every Congress, most recently on the first day of the 115th Congress as H.R. 60. Currently, the bill has 42 Republicans and 35 Democrats accounted for a total of 77 co-sponsors.
