Congressman Denham Announces Launch of Bipartisan, Bicameral Congressional Veterans Jobs Caucus WednesdayU.S. Representative Jeff Denham (R-Turlock) will launch the Congressional Veterans Jobs Caucus for the 113th Congress on Wednesday, February 27, 2013. To kick off the Caucus’ activities in the 113th Congress, members of the Caucus will participate in a “Day on the Hill," highlighting the Caucus’ commitment to increasing veterans' employment and the "I Hire Vets” initiative. "We all know the economic crisis facing our country and how hard it is to find work; the same is true for our veterans,” said Denham. “We must welcome these men and women home with open arms and empower them to use the skills they have to get jobs. I’m proud to work with my colleagues in the House and Senate on both sides of the aisle to uphold our commitment to our veterans, and we invite members of the public – especially business owners – to join us in this important mission." The Veterans Jobs Caucus was first launched last Congress as a bipartisan, bicameral effort to decrease the unemployment rate of the nation’s 857,000 veterans. Denham returns to his position as co-chair of the Congressional Caucus with House colleague and fellow veteran Rep. Tim Walz (D-MN) and Senate co-chairs Sens. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Mark Kirk (R-IL). The Congressional Veterans Jobs Caucus has three goals:
Currently thirty-eight Senators and forty-three Representatives have signed on to the Congressional Veterans Jobs Caucus. In addition, twenty-four veteran or military service organizations and six major corporations endorse the bicameral and bipartisan Caucus. A full list of Caucus Members and additional information are included on the Caucus’ website, and an informational flier can also be downloaded here. |
