U.S. Representative Jeff Denham (R-Turlock) today released a new Thank-a-Vet Thursday (#TVT) video featuring 99-year-old World War II Veteran Howard E. Haak.
Shared on Rep. Denham’s Facebook, Twitter and YouTube pages, this #TVT video is an excerpt from a longer interview for the Library of Congress’ Veterans History Project where Howard recounts training to become a radio repairman and working on the equipment that first detected Japanese planes flying towards Pearl Harbor.
Howard was drafted into the Army in October of 1941. He went on to serve 15 years in the military as a radio repairman, including tours in England, Africa, France and Italy, where he was stationed when the first bomb dropped on Hiroshima. For his service, Howard was awarded the American Area Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
Howard’s story is shared as part of Rep. Denham’s #TVT social media initiative to thank veterans for their service. Rep. Denham invites and encourages social media users to post photos and videos using #TVT to recognize America’s military veterans. All #TVT videos can be found on Rep. Denham’s YouTube channel and official Facebook page.
